SPECIAL: Pre-Engineering Programme
SPECIAL is Saraswathi Vidya Mandir High School’s flagship five-year Pre-Engineering Foundation Programme for Class 6 to Class 10 — a hands-on, project-driven journey that turns curious children into confident young innovators, ready to step into any engineering or technical pathway. Class 6 begins SPECIAL in 2026–27.

What is SPECIAL?
SPECIAL is not a regular subject. Taught for two periods a week alongside the normal curriculum, it lets children observe the world like an engineer and build a better version of it. Lessons are fun, activity-first and light on homework, so curiosity is never crushed — and every child is treated as a future innovator, whatever their marks elsewhere.
How students learn
Every lesson follows one simple arc — Observe → Understand → Build → Apply → Innovate — repeated each year on harder material. Hands stay busier than mouths, ideas are met through real objects before definitions, and mistakes are treated as data: a design that doesn’t work is a lesson, not a failure.
Ten engineering domains, deeper every year
- Energy & Electricity
- Electronics & Control Systems
- Machines, Robotics & Automation
- Materials & Metallurgy
- Applied Physics
- Engineering Design & Drawing
- Computational Thinking
- Sustainable Technology
- Innovation & Problem Solving
- Leadership & Presentation Skills
The programme runs as five levels, counting down from Level 5 in Class 6 to Level 1 in Class 10 — so reaching “Level 1” feels like the top of the climb.
Real projects and a yearly exhibition
Students keep a Design & Innovation Notebook and build real, low-cost projects from everyday and recycled materials. Each year closes with the SPECIAL Technology Exhibition, where children present their work to parents and the school community.

Where it leads
By Class 10, students have a confident foundation across the engineering and technical fields — and a real head start towards Polytechnic and Diploma courses, ITI and technical education, and engineering degrees.
SPECIAL — frequently asked questions
Which classes take SPECIAL?
Class 6 to Class 10. In 2026–27 it begins with Class 6, and a new class joins each year.
Does it add a lot of homework?
No. SPECIAL is deliberately fun and hands-on, with light homework — the learning happens through activities and projects in class.
Is it only for top students?
Not at all. SPECIAL assumes ability in every child and recognises effort and creativity, not just marks.
